RUTU MODAN - Unknow / UNKNOWN
Unknow / Unknown is a good comic Israeli Rutu Modan who speaks of the death of a father during an attack and its research by the son and lover.
Someone described the style of photography Modan, but I call it more essential than anything else. Besides all his use of narrative approaches is essential. Starting from design, a clear line staff and direct through the backgrounds always in the background, to achieve a color rarely so functional.
In fact the first thing I notice is his use of color, sharp and clean, for once, put them not forcibly or side dish, but to create a break and to emphasize what the events revolve. You can easy to see the landscapes that surround the characters are always much more subtle of the characters themselves and the objects involved in the action are increasingly highlighted over others. I do not know if it can be considered a kind of innovation, I do not know if anyone has ever done before, but as I see this device helps both the interpretation of the reader, whether the conduct of the narrative.
The issues tackled by the author are very strong: the disappearance of a father, father son relationship conflict, attacks, love, relationship conflict and the conflict between the upper and lower classes play an important role in keeping glued to the book .
The story then sees different genres merge together and uncertain times reads like a novel on the road, then one of love, then a war, and then a yellow.
Certainly the work highlights the lifestyle and the historical moment of Israel, a nation far away from our traditions and customs. The strength is that the author maintains a radical departure from all the situations that occur using them only as background for the conduct of the characters, just as using color.
The open-ended, and could also be the beginning of a new story.
